Abstract
A dual-molded silicone-polyamide composite article including a first molded piece that comprises a blend of polyamide and an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer and a second molded piece that comprises a thermoset, hydrosilylation-cure silicone polymer. A portion of a surface of the second molded piece is autogenously bonded to a portion of a surface of the first molded piece.
Claims20
A dual-molded silicone-polyamide composite article comprising:
- a first molded piece that comprises a blend of polyamide and an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer in which the ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer comprises at least 60 weight percent vinyl alcohol monomer units, with vinyl alcohol monomer units of the ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer providing from 2 to 20 weight percent of the blend and with the polyamide providing at least 70 percent by weight of the first molded piece;
- and,
- a second molded piece that comprises a thermoset, hydrosilylation-cure silicone polymer,
- wherein a portion of a surface of the second molded piece is autogenously bonded to a portion of a surface of the first molded piece;
- and,
- wherein the polyamide is a semicrystalline, thermoplastic, injection-moldable polyamide that exhibits a crystalline melting point.
