Abstract
One example provide a method for forming a fiber-reinforced plastic composite object including one or more fiber tows, the method including forming one or more layers including one or more fiber tows, wherein forming the one or more layers includes translating an elongate fiber tow along a groove of a pressure foot device to a straight foot segment of a foot surface of the pressure foot device, and one or more of translating and rotating the pressure foot device along a path from a path start to a path end to apply the elongate fiber tow along the path from the straight foot segment.
Claims21
A method for forming a fiber-reinforced plastic composite object including one or more fiber tows, including:
- forming one or more layers including one or more fiber tows, wherein forming the one or more layers includes:
- translating an elongate fiber tow along a groove of a pressure foot device to a straight foot segment of a foot surface of the pressure foot device;
- and
- one or more of translating and rotating the pressure foot device along a path from a path start to a path end to apply the elongate fiber tow along the path from the straight foot segment.
A computer-readable non-volatile storage device storing computer-executable instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a system direction formation of a fiber-reinforced plastic composite object including one or more fiber tows by causing the system to at least:
- direct one or more of a position and a speed of a first tow entrainment motor to cause the fiber tow to translate along a groove of a pressure foot device;
- and
- direct one or more of a position and a speed of a second motor coupled to the pressure foot device to cause the pressure foot device to rotate around an axis of rotation that is orthogonal to a straight foot segment and comprised within a groove midplane of the pressure foot device.
