Abstract
In one aspect, separation media are described herein operable for removing one or more water contaminants, including NOM, fluorinated chemicals, and/or derivatives thereof. Briefly, a separation medium comprises a silica-containing granular support; and an oligomeric stationary phase forming a film on individual grains of the granular support. In some embodiments, the oligomeric stationary phase comprises oligomeric chains covalently bound to the individual grains.
Claims25
A system comprising:
- a separation medium for water purification including a silica-containing granular support, and an oligomeric or polymeric stationary phase coupled to individual grains of the silica-containing granular support, the oligomeric or polymeric stationary phase comprising oligomeric chains or polymeric chains covalently bound to the individual grains of the granular support.
A particle filtration medium regeneration system comprising:
- a used particle filtration medium or plurality of particle filtration media for water purification,
- wherein cationic sites of the used filtration medium are occupied by non-solute particles removed from a fluid stream passed through the filtration medium;
- and
- a treatment solution in contact with the used filtration medium, wherein the treatment solution
- displaces the non-solute particles form the cationic sites, the treatment solution comprising a brine treatment, a base treatment, or a combination thereof.
