Abstract
A reactor system including a plurality of catalytic modules connected end-to-end, forming a passage for reactants to pass through individually heated catalytic heating elements, thereby producing products. Each catalytic module has an insulating housing containing a catalytic heating element and configured to pass reactants over the catalytic heating element. A conductor in the module applies electricity to the catalytic heating element, which operates as a combined catalytic material and heating element.
Claims20
A catalytic module comprising:
- an insulating housing comprising a first spacer and a second spacer, wherein the catalytic module is configured to connect with a second catalytic module at the first spacer, the second spacer, or both;
- a catalysis element arranged within the insulating housing
- a heating element connected to the catalysis element;
- and
- a conductor configured to apply electrical power to the heating element when electrical power is applied to the conductor.

A reactor comprising:
- a plurality of catalytic modules, wherein each catalytic module comprises:
- a housing;
- a first spacer;
- a second spacer;
- and
- an electrically-driven catalytic heating element;
- wherein the catalytic modules of the plurality are connected at the first spacer, the second spacer, or both;
- an inlet for receiving reactants;
- and
- an outlet for egressing products generated by the passage of reactants through the plurality of catalytic modules.

A reactor comprising:
- an annulus defining:
- an inlet at a first end for receiving reactants;
- and
- an outlet at a second end for egressing products;
- and
- a center arranged within the annulus, the center comprising a set of catalytic modules, wherein each catalytic module comprises a catalyst and an electrically-driven heating element;
- wherein the annulus and the center are filled with different materials.
