A system may include an electrode migration detection unit adapted to detect electrode migration associated with an electrode array relative to a cochlea of a patient by comparing presently captured signals and/or data derived from the presently captured signals to previously captured signals and/or data derived from the previously captured signals, the presently captured signals and the previously captured signals induced by applying auditory nerve stimulation signals to one or more electrodes of the electrode array. The system may further include an alarm unit adapted to output an alarm signal based on the electrode migration detection unit detecting the electrode migration.
