Abstract
Fluid management systems are disclosed that include software-controlled, electro-mechanical devices used in combination with single-use or multi-use tubing sets. Functions of the fluid management systems can include fluid pressurization, fluid warming, fluid deficit monitoring (including flow-based and weight-based), suction, fluid collection, and fluid evacuation (including indirect-to-drain and direct-to-drain options). The systems can be configured based on the surgical environment (e.g., operating room or physician office) as well as other user needs and/or preferences.

A fluid management system, comprising:
- a pump configured for selectively delivering fluid of a first fluid type from a first fluid supply container to a surgical site and fluid of a second fluid type from a second fluid supply container to the surgical site;
- and
- a control system comprising at least one processor configured to determine an amount of the fluid of the first fluid type delivered by the pump from the first fluid supply container to the surgical site and an amount of the fluid of the second fluid type delivered by the pump from the second fluid supply container to the surgical site.
A method for delivering different types of fluids to a surgical site, the method comprising, at a fluid management system:
- delivering fluid of a first fluid type from a first fluid supply container to the surgical site and determining an amount of the fluid of the first fluid type delivered to the surgical site;
- receiving a request to switch from delivering the fluid of the first fluid type to delivering fluid of a second fluid type;
- and
- delivering the fluid of the second fluid type from a second fluid supply container to the surgical site and determining an amount of the fluid of the second fluid type delivered to the surgical site.
