Abstract
Provided is a functional, low-profile intercranial device (LID). The LID includes a base portion; at least one cavity associated with the base portion and configured to accept at least one functional component; and at least one conduit having a first end in communication with the at least one cavity. The at least one functional component includes a medicinal, electronic, or optic therapeutic. The at least one conduit is configured to accept the medicinal therapeutic and a second end configured to dispense the therapeutic.
Claims22
A functional, low-profile intercranial device (LID), comprising:
- a base portion comprising a cranial or craniofacial implant having a geometry that substantially conforms with a resected portion of a skull of a patient, the cranial or craniofacial implant comprising a polymer, metal, bioengineered material, or combinations thereof, the cranial or craniofacial implant being shaped and dimensioned to correct deformities and/or defects by placement within the resected portion of the skull during a surgical procedure in such a manner that the cranial or craniofacial implant fills the resected portion;
- at least one cavity associated with the base portion and configured to accept at least one functional component for delivering a medicinal therapeutic;
- and
- at least one conduit comprising a first end in communication with the cavity and configured to accept the medicinal therapeutic and a second end configured to dispense the medicinal therapeutic.
A functional, low-profile intercranial device (LID), comprising:
- a base portion comprising a cranial or craniofacial implant having a geometry that substantially conforms with a resected portion of a skull of a patient, the cranial or craniofacial implant comprising a polymer, metal, bioengineered material, or combinations thereof, the cranial or craniofacial implant being shaped and dimensioned to correct deformities and/or defects by placement within the resected portion of the skull during a surgical procedure in such a manner that the cranial or craniofacial implant fills the resected portion;
- and
- at least one cavity associated with the base portion and configured to accept at least one functional component, wherein the at least one functional component is a pump.
