Abstract
Devices, systems and methods are described herein to provide improved steerability for delivering a prosthesis to a body location, for example, for delivering a replacement heart valve to a native heart valve location. A delivery component can have a plurality of slots that provide for desired bending of the delivery component, particularly compound bending of the delivery component that can facilitate steering of the delivery component in three dimensions.
Claims20
A system for replacing a deficient native heart valve, comprising:
- an expandable implant;
- and
- a delivery catheter, comprising:
- an elongate tubular shaft having an enlarged distal end portion sized to radially constrain the expandable implant in a compressed configuration;
- a steerable shaft located within the tubular shaft, the steerable shaft having a distal section comprising a plurality of distal slots forming a first pair of longitudinal spines and a proximal section comprising plurality of proximal slots forming a second pair of longitudinal spines, the first pair of longitudinal spines being circumferentially offset from the second pair of longitudinal spines;
- one or more pull wires operably connected to the steerable shaft for causing the distal section to bend before the proximal section during application of a proximal force on the one or more pull wires;
- an inner shaft located radially within the steerable shaft, the inner shaft including a distal end portion adapted for releasable attachment to a proximal end of the expandable implant;
- and
- a handle at a proximal end of the delivery catheter, wherein the handle comprises a first rotational actuator operably connected to a proximal end of the one or more pull wires and a second rotational actuator operably connected to the elongate tubular shaft,
- wherein rotational activation of the first rotational actuator provides the proximal force on the one or more pull wires, and
- wherein rotational activation of the second rotational actuator causes retraction of the elongate tubular shaft.
A system for replacing a deficient native heart valve, comprising:
- an expandable implant;
- and
- a delivery catheter, comprising:
- an elongate tubular shaft having an enlarged distal end portion sized to radially constrain the expandable implant in a compressed configuration;
- a steerable shaft located within the tubular shaft, wherein the steerable shaft includes a spine pattern that allows the steerable shaft to be bent in at least two directions;
- one or more pull wires operably connected to the steerable shaft for application of a proximal force on the steerable shaft;
- and
- an inner shaft located radially within the steerable shaft, the inner shaft including a distal end portion adapted for releasable attachment to a proximal end of the expandable implant;
- and
- a handle at a proximal end of the delivery catheter, wherein the handle comprises a first rotational actuator operably connected to a proximal end of the one or more pull wires and a second rotational actuator operably connected to the elongate tubular shaft,
- wherein rotational activation of the first rotational actuator provides the proximal force on the one or more pull wires, and
- wherein rotational activation of the second rotational actuator causes retraction of the elongate tubular shaft.
A system for replacing a deficient native heart valve, comprising:
- a delivery catheter, comprising:
- an elongate tubular shaft having an enlarged distal end portion sized to radially constrain the expandable implant in a compressed configuration;
- a steerable shaft located within the tubular shaft, the steerable shaft comprising a proximal bending section and a distal bending section;
- one or more pull wires operably connected to the proximal bending section and the distal bending section of the steerable shaft;
- and
- an inner shaft located radially within the steerable shaft, the inner shaft including a distal end portion adapted for releasable attachment to a proximal end of the expandable implant;
- and
- a handle having a first rotational actuator adapted to apply a proximal force on the one or more pull wires, thereby bending the steerable shaft and a second rotational actuator adapted to cause retraction of the elongate tubular shaft.
