Abstract
A transparent ceramic for a magneto-optical element includes a paramagnetic garnet-type composite oxide represented by Formula (1) and containing terbium, lutetium, and aluminum; and 100 to 1,000 mass ppm of Si as a sintering aid, (Tb1-xLux)3Al5O12 (1) wherein 0.05≤x≤0.45. A magneto-optical element is an optical isolator that includes the transparent ceramic for a magneto-optical element as a Faraday rotator and a polarizer and an analyzer before and after the Faraday rotator on an optical axis and that is usable in a wavelength range of 0.9 to 1.1 μm.
