Abstract
An electrically conductive ceramic-metal composite brick is formed of a Cr2O3 containing ceramic material into which is incorporated metallic chromium agglomerates having a melting temperature in excess of 1300 C, in some instances in excess of 1500 C. The ceramic-metal composite brick can be incorporated into an electrically heated thermal energy storage system or a resistive heating system as one or both of a heating element and an electrode.
Claims21
An electrically conductive, ceramic-metal composite brick configured to be used in an electrically heated thermal energy storage system or a resistive heating system, comprising:
- a brick formed of a Cr2O3 containing ceramic material having a plurality of metal agglomerates dispersed throughout the brick, the metal agglomerates constituting at least 5% by volume of the brick, wherein the metal agglomerates are formed of metallic chromium.
An electrically conductive brickwork module configured for use in an electrically heated thermal energy storage system or a resistive heating system, comprising:
- a plurality of electrically interconnected conductive bricks, each brick formed of a Cr2O3 containing ceramic material having a plurality of metal agglomerates dispersed throughout the brick body, the metal agglomerates constituting at least 5% by volume of the brick body, wherein the metal agglomerates are formed of metallic chromium.
