Electronic Devices With Folding Displays Having Textured Flexible Areas

An electronic device, comprising:

• a housing configured to fold along an axis;
• a flexible display mounted to the housing and configured to display images across the axis;
• a display cover layer overlapping the flexible display, wherein the display cover layer has first and second rigid portions and a groove interposed between the first and second rigid portions;
• and
• a polymer material in the groove, wherein the first and second rigid portions each have a roughened surface facing the groove to produce a gradual change in refractive index between the display cover layer and the polymer material.

An electronic device, comprising:

• a foldable housing having a first housing portion and a second housing portion that are coupled by a hinge;
• a flexible display that overlaps the first and second housing portions and that is configured to display images across the hinge;
• a glass cover layer that overlaps the flexible display, wherein the glass cover layer has first and second portions and a groove interposed between the first and second portions, wherein the groove is aligned with the hinge, and wherein the first and second portions each have a roughened glass surface facing the groove;
• and
• a polymer material in the groove and on the roughened glass surface of the first and second portions.
