Abstract
A method of manufacturing an optical member includes: providing a polycrystalline wavelength conversion member including phosphor particles and having a first surface and a second surface opposite to the first surface; forming a modified portion inside the wavelength conversion member by focusing laser light inside the wavelength conversion member; and cleaving the wavelength conversion member with the modified portion being a starting point, which includes pressing the wavelength conversion member from a first surface side.
Claims12
A method of manufacturing an optical member, the method comprising:
- providing a polycrystalline wavelength conversion member comprising phosphor particles and having a first surface and a second surface opposite to the first surface;
- forming a modified portion inside the wavelength conversion member by focusing laser light inside the wavelength conversion member;
- and
- cleaving the wavelength conversion member with the modified portion being a starting point, which comprises pressing the wavelength conversion member from a first surface side.
A light emitting device comprising:
- a light emitting element;
- an optical member disposed over the light emitting element and having a plate shape;
- and
- a covering member covering lateral surfaces of the optical member and lateral surfaces of the light emitting element, wherein:
- an upper surface of the optical member is exposed from the covering member,
- the optical member is a polycrystalline wavelength conversion member comprising phosphor particles,
- the optical member includes:
- a first region where surfaces of phosphor particles are exposed and
- a second region where cross sections of phosphor particles are exposed, and
- the first region and the second region are located at different positions on a lateral surface of the wavelength conversion member in a height direction thereof.
