Image capturing apparatus, control method thereof, and storage medium

A method of controlling an image capturing apparatus comprising:

• a pixel portion in which pixels each including a photoelectric conversion element are arranged in a matrix;
• an AD converter arranged corresponding to each pixel column of the pixel portion and configured to convert a pixel signal acquired from the pixels into a digital signal;
• and
• an addition circuit configured to add pixel signals of different N columns (N being an integer of 2 or more), the method comprising:
• using a plurality of AD converters corresponding to the N columns to perform AD conversion on the pixel signals added by the addition circuit, and, during the AD conversion, after a predetermined time has elapsed from start of the AD conversion, performing a control to switch some of the plurality of AD converters to an operation that reduces power consumption.

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing a program for causing a computer to execute a control method of an image capturing apparatus comprising:

• a pixel portion in which pixels each including a photoelectric conversion element are arranged in a matrix;
• an AD converter arranged corresponding to each pixel column of the pixel portion and configured to convert a pixel signal acquired from the pixels into a digital signal;
• and
• an addition circuit configured to add pixel signals of different N columns (N being an integer of 2 or more), the method comprising:
• using a plurality of AD converters corresponding to the N columns to perform AD conversion on the pixel signals added by the addition circuit, and, during the AD conversion, after a predetermined time has elapsed from start of the AD conversion, performing a control to switch some of the plurality of AD converters to an operation that reduces power consumption.
