Abstract
A battery system includes a plurality of batteries including a plurality of chargeable battery cells, and a bus to which the plurality of batteries are selectively connected in parallel. A battery management system monitors operating limits of the chargeable battery cells of the plurality of batteries, generates a signal indicating that an operating limit of a chargeable battery cell of a battery among the plurality of batteries is being reached for a foldback operation of the battery, and initiates the foldback operation. A controller is configured to generate a signal to disconnect the battery associated with the signal of the battery management system from the bus.
Claims20
A battery system comprising:
- a plurality of batteries including a plurality of chargeable battery cells;
- a bus to which the plurality of batteries are selectively connected in parallel;
- a battery management system configured to monitor operating limits of the chargeable battery cells of the plurality of batteries, to generate a signal indicating that an operating limit of a chargeable battery cell of a battery among the plurality of batteries is being reached for a foldback operation of the battery, and to initiate the foldback operation;
- and
- a controller configured to generate a signal to disconnect the battery associated with the signal of the battery management system from the bus.
A method of controlling a battery system including a plurality of batteries that include a plurality of chargeable battery cells, and a bus to which the plurality of batteries are selectively connected in parallel, the method comprising:
- monitoring operating limits of the chargeable battery cells in the plurality of batteries;
- generating a signal indicating that an operating limit of a chargeable battery cell of a battery among the plurality of batteries is being reached for a foldback operation of the battery;
- initiating the foldback operation;
- and
- disconnecting the battery associated with the signal from the bus.
A non-transitory computer-readable medium including computer-executable instructions stored therein, which when executed by one or more processors causes the one or more processors to perform a method of controlling a battery system including a plurality of batteries that include a plurality of chargeable battery cells, and a bus to which the plurality of batteries are selectively connected in parallel, the method comprising:
- monitoring operating limits of the chargeable battery cells in the plurality of batteries;
- generating a signal indicating that an operating limit of a chargeable battery cell of a battery among the plurality of batteries is being reached for a foldback operation of the battery;
- initiating the foldback operation;
- and
- disconnecting the battery associated with the signal from the bus.
