Abstract
Antenna arrays with separate resonances and termination networks for multiple millimeter wave frequency bands are provided herein. In certain embodiments, an antenna array includes a first antenna element that receives the first radio frequency transmit signal at an input. The first antenna element has a first resonant mode and a second resonant mode. The antenna array further includes a first termination network connected to the input of the first antenna element and a second termination network connected to the input of the first antenna element.
Claims20
A method of wireless transmission in a mobile device, the method comprising:
- generating a first radio frequency transmit signal of a first frequency and a second radio frequency transmit signal of a second frequency using a transceiver;
- receiving the first radio frequency transmit signal at a first input of a multi-throw switch of a front-end system and receiving the second radio frequency transmit signal at a second input of the multi-throw switch, the front end system further including a first power amplifier having an input connected to an output of the multi-throw switch and an output connected to a first antenna element of an antenna array, the first antenna element being a multi-resonant antenna having a first resonant mode corresponding to the first frequency and a second resonant mode corresponding to the second frequency;
- and
- terminating the first antenna element using a first termination network directly connected to the input of the first antenna element and tuned to the first frequency to provide termination at the first frequency and a second termination network directly connected to the input of the first antenna element and tuned to the second frequency to provide termination at the second frequency.
