Abstract
A lithium-sulfur battery providing stable, high energy density includes a cathode including sulfur, an anode including lithium metal, and an electrolyte including non-aqueous solvent and an additive including a fluorinated borate or a fluorinated borane; and lithium bis(nonafluorobutanesulfonyl)imide (LiNFBSI).
Claims21
An electrochemical cell comprising:
- a cathode comprising sulfur;
- an anode comprising lithium metal;
- an electrolyte comprising:
- a non-aqueous solvent;
- and
- an additive comprising a fluorinated borate or a fluorinated borane;
- and
- lithium bis(nonafluorobutanesulfonyl)imide (LiNFBSI).
5 more elements
A process for recovering insoluble sulfur species in an electrochemical cell, the process comprising:
- contacting Li2S with S8 in a non-aqueous solvent comprising tris-(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl) borate (TFEB) to form a lithium polysulfide of formula Li2Sx dissolved in the non-aqueous solvent, where x>2.
An electrolyte for a lithium-sulfur battery, the electrolyte comprising:
- a non-aqueous solvent;
- and lithium bis(nonafluorobutanesulfonyl)imide (LiNFBSI).
