Abstract
Systems and methods are provided for displaying a landing runway extension on an aircraft. A destination airport of the aircraft is identified based on a flight path of the aircraft received from a flight management system (FMS) of the aircraft. A location of the aircraft is determined based on location data received from at least one geospatial sensor of the aircraft. A landing runway at the destination airport is identified. A display is generated for display on an onboard display device system of the aircraft when the location of the aircraft is within a pre-defined distance from the destination airport. The display includes the landing runway and the landing runway extension associated with a desired final approach flight path to the landing runway.
Claims20
A landing runway extension display system of an aircraft, the system comprising:
- at least one processor;
- and
- at least one memory communicatively coupled to the at least one processor, the at least one memory comprising instructions that, upon execution by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to:
- identify a destination airport of the aircraft based on a flight path of the aircraft received from a flight management system (FMS) of the aircraft;
- determine a location of the aircraft based on location data received from at least one geospatial sensor of the aircraft;
- identify a landing runway at the destination airport;
- and
- generate a display for display via an onboard display device system of the aircraft when the location of the aircraft is within a pre-defined distance from the destination airport, the display including the landing runway and a landing runway extension associated with a desired final approach flight path to the landing runway.
A method of displaying a landing runway extension on an aircraft comprising:
- identifying a destination airport of the aircraft based on a flight path of the aircraft received from a flight management system (FMS) of the aircraft;
- determining a location of the aircraft based on location data received from at least one geospatial sensor of the aircraft;
- identifying a landing runway at the destination airport;
- and
- generating a display for display via an onboard display device system of the aircraft when the location of the aircraft is within a pre-defined distance from the destination airport, the display including the landing runway and the landing runway extension associated with a desired final approach flight path to the landing runway.
