Solid forms of mesembrine are provided, along with related methods of manufacture. The solid form compositions are useful, for example, in the preparation of pharmaceutical compositions.

A crystalline besylate salt of mesembrine having an X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) pattern comprising 2-theta peaks (2 theta±0.2) 9.3°, 19.6°, 21.2°, 23.8°, and 28.0°.
A (−) mesembrine solid form selected from the group consisting of:
- a. a solid freeform of mesembrine having an X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) pattern comprising 2-theta peaks (2 theta±0.2) 12.9°, 13.9°, 14.9°, 19.8°, and 23.0°;
- b. a crystalline HCl salt of mesembrine, having an X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) pattern comprising 2-theta peaks (2 theta±0.2) 13.9°, 16.5°, 17.3°, 21.0°, and 27.3°;
- c. a crystalline tartrate salt of mesembrine, having an X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) pattern comprising 2-theta peaks (2 theta±0.2) 5.2°, 10.3°, 12.9°, 16.7°, and 20.7°;
- d. a crystalline besylate salt of mesembrine, having an X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) pattern comprising 2-theta peaks (2 theta±0.2) 9.3°, 19.6°, 21.2°, 23.8°, and 24.7°;
- e. a crystalline besylate salt of mesembrine, having an X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) pattern comprising 2-theta peaks (2 theta±0.2) 11.0°, 13.5°, 15.2°, 18.7°, and 23.8°;
- f. a crystalline oxalate salt of mesembrine, having an X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) pattern comprising 2-theta peaks (2 theta±0.2) 7.9°, 11.7°, 17.3°, 18.2°, and 23.7°;
- and
- g. a crystalline gentisate salt of mesembrine, having an X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) pattern comprising 2-theta peaks (2 theta±0.2) 13.8°, 16.6°, 19.2°, 20.8°, and 27.8°.
