Abstract
A porosity gradient fibrous preform includes at least one first fabric-resin layer and a second fabric-resin layer, each including a plurality of fibers and a resin. The second fabric-resin layer is positioned on top of the at least one first fabric-resin layer. A weight ratio percentage of the resin sequentially decreases from a center of the porosity gradient fibrous preform toward an outer surface of the porosity gradient fibrous preform to create a path through the porosity gradient fibrous preform for infiltration of a fluid.
Claims20
A porosity gradient fibrous preform comprising:
- a plurality of fabric-resin layers, each comprising a plurality of fibers and a resin;
- and
- a weight ratio percentage of the resin sequentially decreases from a center of the porosity gradient fibrous preform toward an outer surface of the porosity gradient fibrous preform to create a gradient in a resin content wherein a first fabric-resin layer toward a center of the porosity gradient fibrous preform comprises a higher resin content relative to a second fabric-resin layer toward an outer surface of the porosity gradient preform in a direction normal to the fabric-resin layers.
A manufacturing method, comprising:
- forming a porosity gradient fibrous preform by:
- arranging a plurality of fabric-resin layers, each comprising a plurality of fibers and a resin, so that a weight ratio percentage of the resin sequentially decreases from a center of the porosity gradient fibrous preform toward an outer surface of the porosity gradient fibrous preform;
- and
- pyrolyzing the resin from the porosity gradient fibrous preform to create a path through the porosity gradient fibrous preform for infiltration of a fluid.
