Abstract
The present invention provides modified sophorolipids modified with amino acids to improve, e.g., the bioavailability of the amino acids. The modified sophorolipids of the present invention are capable of efficiently delivering the amino acids to the target site and enhancing the efficacy of the amino acid and/or the sophorolipids.
Claims21
A compound of formula (I) or a salt thereof:
- wherein:
- R1 is an amino acid linked to the adjacent carbonyl moiety via an amide linkage;
- R2 is each independently H or —COCH3;
- R3 is a saturated or unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon chain having 5-15 carbons;
- and
- R4 is H or —CH3.
A compound of formula (II) or a salt thereof
- wherein:
- R1 is an amino acid linked to the adjacent carbonyl moiety via an amide linkage;
- R2 is each independently H or —COCH3;
- and
- R4 is H or —CH3.
A method of improving the oral bioavailability of an amino acid in a subject comprising orally administering to the subject a modified sophorolipid of formula (I) and/or (II), or a salt thereof,
- wherein R1 is the amino acid linked to the adjacent carbonyl moiety via an amide linkage, R2 is each independently H or —COCH3, R3 is a saturated or unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon chain having 5-15 carbons, and R4 is each independently H or —CH3.
A method of treating or preventing a disease, disorder, or condition in a subject comprising administering to the subject a modified sophorolipid of the formula (I) and/or (II) or a salt thereof:
- wherein R1 is each independently an amino acid linked to the adjacent carbonyl moiety via an amide linkage, R2 is each independently H or —COCH3, R3 is a saturated or unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon chain having 5-15 carbons, and R4 is each independently H or —CH3.
A method of improving muscular vitality in a subject comprising administering to the subject in need of such improvement a modified sophorolipid of the formula (I) and/or (II) or a salt thereof:
- wherein R1 is an amino acid linked to the adjacent carbonyl moiety via an amide linkage, R2 is each independently H or —COCH3, R3 is a saturated or unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon chain having 5-15 carbons, and R4 is each independently H or —CH3;
- and
- wherein said amino acid is taurine.
