Abstract
Methods and systems for improving segmentation of a digital model of a patient's dentition into component teeth.
Claims20
A computer-implemented method comprising:
- determining, for a tooth of a digital model, a restriction boundary for the tooth;
- generating a loop path around a surface of the digital model of the tooth based on the restriction boundary;
- estimating a loop path metric using one or more properties of the loop path;
- adjusting the restriction boundary by generating a new loop path based on an expanded restriction boundary;
- and
- segmenting the digital model of the tooth using the new loop path.

A computer-implemented method comprising:
- iteratively determining, for a tooth of a digital model, a final loop path for the tooth, wherein the determination comprises:
- determining a first loop path around a surface of the digital model of the tooth based on one or more restriction boundaries of the tooth;
- estimating a first loop path metric for the first loop path;
- expanding the first loop path to a second loop path;
- estimating a second loop path metric for the second loop path;
- and
- using the second loop path as the final loop path when the second loop path metric improves with respect to the first loop path metric;
- and
- and
- segmenting the digital model of the tooth based on the final loop path.

A computer-implemented method comprising:
- determining, for a tooth of a digital model, a loop path for the tooth, wherein the loop path is based on one or more restriction boundaries;
- estimating a loop path metric using one or more properties of the loop path;
- adjusting the loop path by generating a new loop path based on an expanded restriction boundary;
- and
- segmenting the digital model of the tooth using the new loop path.
