Video laryngoscope with automatic zoom effects

A method for automatic cropping by a video laryngoscope, the method comprising:

• acquiring an image using a camera of the video laryngoscope, the image including a portion of a tool;
• providing at least a portion of the acquired image as input into a trained machine learning (ML) model;
• receiving detection of the tool as output from the trained ML model;
• based on the tool detection, zooming out to a portion of the acquired image including patient anatomy and a tool portion of the tool having a tool height;
• and
• displaying the zoomed-out portion of the acquired image at a display of the video laryngoscope.

A video laryngoscope comprising:

• a handle portion;
• a display screen coupled to the handle portion;
• a camera, positioned at a distal end of the blade portion, that acquires a video feed while the video laryngoscope is powered on;
• a memory;
• and
• a processor that operates to:
• acquire a first image from a video feed of a camera of the video laryngoscope,
• the first image including patient anatomy;
• display a first portion of the first image on the display screen;
• acquire a second image from the video feed, the second image including a tool and the patient anatomy;
• detect the tool in the second image;
• and
• based on detecting the tool in the second image, display a second portion of the second image, wherein the second portion is larger than the first portion thereby providing a zoom-out effect.
