A power distribution unit can be configured to receive power from an external power source and/or an energy storage device. The power distribution unit can distribute power to the heating element. The energy storage device can be rechargeable. The electric grill can include a controller and sensors to detect and adjust operating conditions of the grill to provide intelligent cooking capability. A sensor may detect food on a grill grate and a level of doneness of the food. A housing of the grill can include a powered vent that can close if a flame is detected within the housing.
