Recording apparatus

A recording apparatus, comprising:

• a recording unit configured to record an image on a sheet transported in a transport direction;
• a cover configured to be openable and closable with respect to a housing in which the recording unit is accommodated;
• an opening/closing mechanism configured to control opening and closing of the cover;
• a carriage that includes a support portion, configured to mount the recording unit thereon, and move between a first position and a second position in a movement direction intersecting the transport direction, the second position being on the opening/closing mechanism side with respect to the first position;
• and
• a guide portion configured to guide the carriage at the support portion,
• wherein the support portion protrudes in the movement direction toward the opening/closing mechanism side with respect to the recording unit, the recording unit overlaps the opening/closing mechanism as seen from the movement direction, and the support portion on the opening/closing mechanism side overlaps the opening/closing mechanism as seen from the transport direction when the carriage is at the second position.
