An Al-ND-based composite material in which diamond particles are dispersed in an aluminum (Al)-based metal matrix, wherein
- the Al-based metal matrix is a pure Al matrix or an Al-based alloy matrix,
- the diamond particles include nanodiamond (ND) particles,
- a proportion of the ND particles is from 1 to 30 mass %,
- an average size of primary particles of the ND particles is from 2 to 70 nm, and
- the Al-ND-based composite material is a sintered compact or a solution-treated material.
