A method of increasing the efficiency of a transport system, wherein the transport system transports and/or stores a product, and wherein the product is food, flowers, or plants, and comprises at least on of edible proteins, fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, pet food, and/or animal feed, the method comprising:
- coating at least part of the surface of the product, which is initially uncoated, with a substance to create a coated product, wherein the substance is selected from the group of:
- silk fibroin, chitin, acetylated monoglycerides, shellac, starch, high fructose corn syrup, mayauba wax, maydelilla wax, beeswax, vegetable oil, paraffin oil, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, cellulose, pectin, alginate, chitosan, gum Arabic, soy protein, zein, casein, and/or whey;
- wherein the product is coated pre-harvest to create a coated product;
- wherein the coating is washed off the coated product during processing after shipment to create an uncoated product;
- and
- thereby increasing the freight capacity of the transport system
A method of increasing the efficiency of a transport system, wherein the transport system transports and/or stores a product, and wherein the product is food, flowers, or plants, and comprises at least on of edible proteins, fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, pet food, and/or animal feed, the method comprising:
- coating at least part of the surface of the product, which is initially uncoated, with a substance to create a coated product, wherein the substance is selected from the group of:

- wherein the product is coated during harvest to create a coated product;
- wherein the coating is washed off the coated product during processing after shipment to create an uncoated product;
- and
- thereby increasing the freight capacity of the transport system.
A method of increasing the performance of a transport system having a performance variable, wherein the transport system transports and/or stores a product, and wherein the product is food, flowers, or plants, and comprises at least on of edible proteins, fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, pet food, and/or animal feed, the method comprising:
- coating at least part of the surface of the product, which is initially uncoated, with a substance to create a coated product, wherein the substance is selected from the group of:

- wherein the product is coated pre-harvest to create a coated product;
- wherein the coating is washed off the coated product during processing after shipment to create an uncoated product;
- and
- thereby increasing the performance of the transport system.
