Systems and methods for configuring an optical light path

An assembly, comprising:

• a medical device including a housing, the housing having an opening configured to receive light from a source external to the housing;
• a lens disposed within the housing and configured to direct light received via the opening to pass, within the housing, along an optical path;
• an accessory removably attachable to the housing, the accessory comprising an image sensor and a beam splitter, wherein when the accessory is removably attached to the housing, the beam splitter is positioned such that at least a portion of the light passing along the optical path is directed, by the beam splitter, to the image sensor;
• a first polarizer formed from a single polarizer sheet and comprising first polarization lines corresponding to a polarization direction of the polarizer sheet, the first polarization lines being disposed on a first surface of the first polarizer;
• and
• a second polarizer formed from the single polarizer sheet and comprising second polarization lines corresponding to the polarization direction, the second polarization lines being disposed on a second surface of the second polarizer, the first polarizer being positioned such that:
• at least a portion of the light passing along the optical path is polarized by the first polarizer,
• the first surface is substantially perpendicular to the optical path, and
• the first surface is substantially perpendicular to the second surface.

A method of manufacturing, comprising:

• providing a medical device including a housing, the housing having an opening configured to receive light from a source external to the housing;
• positioning a lens within the housing, the lens being configured to direct light received via the opening to pass, within the housing, along an optical path;
• providing an accessory removably attachable to the housing, the accessory comprising an image sensor and a beam splitter, wherein when the accessory is removably attached to the housing, the beam splitter is positioned such that at least a portion of the light passing along the optical path is directed, by the beam splitter, to the image sensor;
• providing a first polarizer formed from a single polarizer sheet and comprising first polarization lines corresponding to a polarization direction of the polarizer sheet, the first polarization lines being disposed on a first surface of the first polarizer;
• providing a second polarizer formed from the single polarizer sheet and comprising second polarization lines corresponding to the polarization direction, the second polarization lines being disposed on a second surface of the second polarizer;
• and
• positioning the first polarizer such that:
• at least a portion of the light passing along the optical path is polarized by the first polarizer,
• the first surface is substantially perpendicular to the optical path, and
• the first surface is substantially perpendicular to the second surface.
