Abstract
Techniques are disclosed herein for minimizing movement of an offshore wind turbine. Using the technologies described, a wind turbine may be mounted on a marine platform that is constructed and deployed to reduce environmental loads (e.g., wind, waves, . . . ) on the platform in both shallow and deep water. In some configurations, a fully restrained platform (FRP) is configured to support a wind turbine. According to some examples, moorings are attached to the FRP and/or the structure of the wind turbine structure to reduce movement in six degrees of freedom.
Claims20
A system, comprising:
- a monopile that includes a first end embedded into a seabed;
- a buoyant a buoyant structure that is integrated into the monopile;
- a platform to host a wind turbine structure, the platform coupled to the monopile;
- one or more anchors attached to a seabed;
- and
- one or more moorings that include a first end coupled to one of one or more attachments points on at least one of the monopile and a second end coupled to at one of the one or more anchors, wherein the one or more moorings restricts movement of the platform in six degrees of freedom.
A fully restrained platform, comprising:
- a monopile that includes a first end embedded into a seabed and a second end;
- a transition piece rigidity mounted on the second end of the monopile;
- an offshore substation rigidity mounted on the transition piece;
- and
- a buoyant structure that is integrated into the monopile;
- one or more anchors attached to a seabed;
- and
- one or more moorings that include a first end coupled to one of one or more attachments points on at least one of the transition piece and a second end coupled to at one of the one or more anchors, wherein the one or more moorings restricts movement of the platform in six degrees of freedom.
