• a coating liquid placement device for holding a honeycomb substrate having a plurality of cell flow channels partitioned by cell walls so that a flow direction of the cell flow channels is vertical, and placing a catalyst layer formation coating liquid on an upper end surface of the substrate, and
• a transport suction device for simultaneously performing suctioning of the substrate after the step (A) from a lower end surface to coat one or both of on the cell walls and in the cell walls of the substrate with the coating liquid, and transporting of the substrate after the step (A) to a subsequent step.

A transport suction device, for simultaneously performing suctioning of a substrate having a plurality of cell flow channels partitioned by cell walls and having a catalyst layer formation coating liquid placed on an upper end (surface) thereof, from a lower end surface thereof to coat one or both of on the cell walls and in the cell walls of the substrate with the coating liquid, and transporting of the substrate to a subsequent step.
