Abstract
An object is to provide a catalyst which has high heat resistance and which can allow for production of methacrylic acid at a high yield and to provide methods for producing methacrylic acid and methacrylic acid ester with the catalyst, and the object is achieved by use of a catalyst having a specified peak in powder X-ray measurement.
Claims15
A catalyst for use in the production of methacrylic acid by oxidation of methacrolein, wherein
- the catalyst contains heteropoly acid including phosphorus, molybdenum and tungsten,
- (a1) IB/IA is 0.015 or less when the intensity of a diffraction peak (peak A) at 2θ=26.1±0.2° is defined as IA and the intensity of a diffraction peak (peak B) at 2θ=23.0±0.2° is defined as IB in powder X-ray diffraction measurement at 25° C., and
- (b) the lowest temperature T1 at which a diffraction peak (peak E) at 2θ=27.1±0.2° appears in powder X-ray diffraction measurement performed at an interval of 10° C. from 400° C. with a temperature rise at 10° C./min is 440° C. or more.
