Abstract
A curable composite material containing nanodiamonds, denture bases and other dental prosthetics made from the composite material and methods for treating dental stomatitis using these prosthetics.
Claims12
1-7. (canceled)
The method of claim 19, further comprising:
- including rubber nanoparticles during the mixing.
The method of claim 19, wherein the polymerizing forms the PMMA composite material having a molecular weight as measured by gel permeation chromatograph (GPC) of 300,000 to 1,000,000 g/mol.
10-11. (canceled)
The method of claim 19, wherein the nanodiamonds have an average particle size of about 30 nm and the nanodiamonds are uniformly distributed in the PMMA composite material so that the density of nanodiamonds between cm3 different volumes of composite does not vary by more than 10%.
(canceled)
The method of claim 19, wherein the nanodiamonds have an average diameter of about 30 nm.
15-16. (canceled)
The method of claim 19, wherein Candida albicans binds to said PMMA composite material less than a control or otherwise identical composite material not containing nanodiamonds.
(canceled)
A method for forming and polishing a composite denture, comprising:
- fitting a patient for a denture base,
- mixing a powder comprising nanodiamonds having a particle size of about 20 to 40 nm with methyl methacrylate resin powder to form a mixture,
- casting the mixture into a mold, and
- polymerizing the mixture to form the denture base comprising the PMMA composite material, and
- polishing the denture base first with a tungsten carbide bur then with a rubber top bur;
- wherein the PMMA composite material, comprises:
- a poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) matrix, and
- 0.1 to 1.0 wt. % of the nanodiamonds based on a total weight of the PMMA composite material,
- wherein the PMMA has a molecular weight of 50,000 to 1,000,000 g/mol,
- wherein the PMMA composite material is porous having pores 80 to 100 μm in size,
- wherein the nanodiamonds fill pores of the PMMA composite material,
- where the nanodiamonds are only in the pores on the PMMA composite material, and
- wherein the PMMA composite material has a surface roughness (Ra) of no more than 0.2 μm.
