Apparatuses and method for partial coherent codebook design. A method performed by a user equipment (UE) includes receiving a configuration about an uplink (UL) codebook for eight antenna ports partitioned into Ng=4 groups, each group comprising two antenna ports; receiving a transmit precoding matrix indicator (TPMI) indicating a precoding matrix (W) from the UL codebook; and transmitting a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) using the precoding matrix (W). W is based on up to K matrices [M(1) . . . . M(K)], where a matrix M(l) is obtained by associating a submatrix S to a group Gj=(gj,1, gj,2) as M(l)=[egj,1 egj,2]S. (gj,1, gj,2) are two ports of the group Gj, K∈{1, . . . , 4}, j∈{1, . . . ,4 }. ek denotes an 8×1 column vector whose k-th entry is 1 and remaining entries are 0.
