Vehicle control system and vehicle control method

A vehicle control system, comprising a portable terminal and a vehicle on-board device that carries out wireless communication with the portable terminal, wherein:

• the vehicle on-board device comprises:
• a first biometric information recognition unit configured to recognize biometric information, and
• a first control unit configured to execute control of a vehicle in accordance with the biometric information recognized at the first biometric information recognition unit, and
• the portable terminal comprises:
• a second biometric information recognition unit configured to recognize biometric information,
• a specification unit configured to specify control of the vehicle in accordance with the biometric information recognized at the second biometric information recognition unit,
• an instruction unit configured to instruct the first control unit to execute the specified control of the vehicle, and
• a second control unit configured to effect control so as to perform notification, by the portable terminal, indicating that the control of the vehicle cannot be specified by the specification unit, in a case in which the control of the vehicle in accordance with the biometric information recognized at the second biometric information recognition unit cannot be specified at the specification unit and recognition of the biometric information by the first biometric information recognition unit is not operating, and
• to effect control so as not to perform notification, by the portable terminal, indicating that the control of the vehicle cannot be specified by the specification unit, in a case in which the control of the vehicle in accordance with the biometric information recognized at the second biometric information recognition unit cannot be specified at the specification unit and recognition of the biometric information by the first biometric information recognition unit is operating.
