Abstract
A method includes obtaining image data corresponding to a physical environment from an image sensor in an electronic device. The electronic device may determine surface normal frequency data based on the image data. The electronic device may determine an orientation of the electronic device in the physical environment based on the surface normal frequency data.

A method comprising:
- at an electronic device including one or more processors, a non-transitory memory, and an image sensor:
- obtaining image data corresponding to a physical environment from the image sensor;
- determining surface normal frequency data based on the image data;
- and
- determining an orientation of the electronic device in the physical environment based on the surface normal frequency data.
