Storage policy change usage estimation

A system comprising:

• at least one processor;
• and
• memory storing instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, causes the system to perform a set of operations, the set of operations comprising:
• receiving a request to generate an estimated storage utilization associated with a storage object based on a first storage policy, wherein the storage object has an actual storage utilization on a data store based on a second storage policy;
• determining, based on the actual storage utilization and the second storage policy for the storage object, a base storage utilization for the storage object;
• generating, based on the base storage utilization and the first storage policy, the estimated storage utilization for the storage object on the data store;
• and
• providing, in response to the request, an indication of the estimated storage utilization.

A method for managing storage policies for a storage object, the method comprising:

• receiving, via a user interface, a first user input associated with a first storage policy for a storage object, wherein the storage object has an actual storage utilization on a data store based on a second storage policy;
• determining, based on the actual storage utilization and the second storage policy for the storage object, a base storage utilization for the storage object;
• determining, based on the base storage utilization and the first storage policy, an estimated storage utilization for the storage object on the data store;
• presenting, via the user interface, the estimated storage utilization for the storage object and an indication associated with the actual storage utilization of the storage object;
• receiving, via the user interface, a confirmation indication to implement the first storage policy;
• and
• in response to the confirmation indication, providing an indication to an object store manager to implement the first storage policy.

A method for managing an object store comprising one or more storage objects, the method comprising:

• receiving a request to generate an estimated storage utilization associated with a storage object of the object store based on a first storage policy, wherein the storage object has an actual storage utilization on a data store based on a second storage policy;
• determining, based on the actual storage utilization and the second storage policy for the storage object, a base storage utilization for the storage object;
• generating, based on the base storage utilization and the first storage policy, the estimated storage utilization for the storage object on the data store;
• and
• providing, in response to the request, an indication of the estimated storage utilization.
