Abstract
Systems and methods can sort materials of different specific gravities in a mixture. These systems and methods for separation of materials provide multiple forces simultaneously. The system can utilize both vertical and the horizontal forces for efficient separation of materials with different specific gravities.
Claims20
A system for high throughput separation of materials in a waste stream, comprising
- a. a multi-unit linear arrangement, each unit configured with a top and bottom section, where a paddle wheel is vertically oriented to agitate the waste stream, causing stratification based on specific gravities, and
- b. impellers positioned to apply horizontal shear forces for further separation, resulting in distinct discharge of light and heavy materials through dedicated outlets.
A method for high throughput separation of materials in a waste stream, comprising:
- feeding the waste stream into a system comprising a multi-unit linear arrangement with each unit configured with a top and bottom section;
- vertically agitating the waste stream using a paddle wheel to cause stratification based on specific gravities;
- and
- applying horizontal shear forces to the agitated waste stream using impellers, resulting in the distinct discharge of light and heavy materials through dedicated outlets.
