Abstract
A trigger assembly, for use with a power tool having an electric motor, includes a trigger, a spring configured to bias the trigger towards a first position, a conductor coupled for movement with the trigger, and a printed circuit board. The printed circuit board has an inductive sensor thereon responsive to relative movement between the conductor and the inductive sensor caused by movement of the trigger. An output of the inductive sensor is used to activate the electric motor.
Claims20
A trigger assembly for use with a power tool having an electric motor, the trigger assembly comprising:
- a trigger;
- a spring configured to bias the trigger towards a first position, wherein the trigger is pivotable about an axis against a biasing force of the spring towards a second position;
- a conductor mounted to the trigger for movement between the first position and the second position with the trigger;
- and
- a printed circuit board having an inductive sensor thereon configured to detect a position of the conductor and output a signal corresponding to the position of the conductor.
A power tool comprising:
- a housing;
- an electric motor provided in the housing;
- a trigger provided on the housing;
- a conductor coupled for movement with the trigger;
- a spring configured to bias the trigger towards a first position, wherein the trigger is pivotable about an axis against a biasing force of the spring towards a second position;
- a printed circuit board having an inductive sensor thereon and configured to detect a position of the conductor and output a signal corresponding to the position of the conductor;
- and
- a controller electrically connected to the inductive sensor and configured to receive the signal from the inductive sensor and control the electric motor based on the signal.
A trigger assembly for use with a power tool having an electric motor, the trigger assembly comprising:
- a trigger;
- a spring configured to bias the trigger towards a first position, wherein the trigger is pivotable about an axis against a biasing force of the spring towards a second position;
- a sense target coupled for movement with the trigger;
- and
- a printed circuit board having a non-contact sensor thereon configured to detect a position of the sense target and output a signal corresponding to the position of the sense target.
