Abstract
A genetically engineered strain of Pseudomonas is provided, which is capable of metabolizing lactose as a sole carbon source in the production of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs). A method of engineering microorganisms and a method of PHA production are also provided, wherein lactose is used as a sole carbon source.
Claims24
A cell of a microorganism, wherein the cell is genetically modified to synthesize polyhydroxyalkanoates, PHAs, using lactose as the sole carbon source, wherein:
- the microorganism comprises a Pseudomonas species;
- and the microorganism is genetically modified to incorporate in its genome non-native genes for lactose and galactose metabolization.
Dependencies are inferred from the claim text.
