Abstract
Methods for stimulating neural repair and remyelination and for treating a myelin related disorder in a subject are described. The methods include administering to a subject in need of treatment an effective amount of anacardic acid having the formula (I) of claim 1 or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

A method of stimulating remyelination in a subject in need thereof, wherein the method comprises administering to the subject an effective amount of anacardic acid or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
A method of treating a demyelinating disorder in a subject in need thereof, comprising administering to the subject an effective amount of anacardic acid or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
