Abstract
An electrochemical cell includes a working electrode, a counter electrode, and an electrolyte covering the working electrode and the counter electrode. The working electrode include a CO2 adsorbent that is at least one selected from a group consisting of MX2-a, MX2Y1-b, MX2-aY1-b, M2C, and M2C1-d, where M is a transition metal, X is any one selected from a group consisting of S, Se, and Te, Y is an element substituting a part of X, a is within a range of 0<a<2, b is within a range of 0<b<1, and d is within a range of 0<d<1.
Claims8
An electrochemical cell for separating CO2 from a CO2 containing gas by an electrochemical reaction, the electrochemical cell comprising:
- a working electrode including a CO2 adsorbent;
- a counter electrode;
- and
- an electrolyte covering the working electrode and the counter electrode, wherein
- the working electrode and the counter electrode are configured so that electrons are supplied from the counter electrode to the working electrode and the working electrode absorbs CO2 contained in the CO2 containing gas in response to a first voltage applied between the working electrode and the counter electrode, and electrons are supplied from the working electrode to the counter electrode and the CO2 is desorbed from the working electrode in response to a second voltage applied between the working electrode and the counter electrode, and
- the CO2 adsorbent is at least one selected from a group consisting of MX2-a, MX2Y1-b, MX2-aY1-b, M2C, and M2C1-d, where
- M is a transition metal,
- X is any one selected from a group consisting of S, Se, and Te,
- Y is an element substituting a part of X,
- a is within a range of 0<a<2,
- b is within a range of 0<b<1, and
- d is within a range of 0<d<1.
