Abstract
A system for controlling movement of a vehicle includes a user input device and computing system. The user input device dynamically controls a settings or balance of driving dynamics in a vehicle, and the user input device is configured to receive a manual input from a user. The computing system controls the settings of the vehicle driving dynamics and/or balance of the vehicle, the computing system is in data communication with the user input device and configured to change the driving dynamics balance proportionately to the manual input upon receiving an input command based on the manual input from the user input device.
Claims23
A system for controlling movement of a vehicle having a plurality of wheels, and brakes and suspension associated with the plurality of wheels the system comprising:
- a prime mover coupled to the plurality of wheels and configured to provide a torque output individually to each of the wheels in the plurality of wheels;
- a throttle control, wherein the throttle control is configured to generate throttle input instructions to the prime mover to control the torque output of the prime mover;
- a user input device configured to receive input from a user and to generate an input command;
- and
- a computing system coupled to the prime mover, the throttle control and the user input device and configured to:
- receive instructions from the throttle control;
- receive the input command from the user input device;
- and
- in response to receiving the instructions from the throttle control and the input command from the user input device, changing at least one of the torque output and suspension behavior at one or more wheels of the plurality of wheels.
A method of controlling movement of a vehicle having a plurality of wheels, a prime mover configured to generate a torque output individually to each wheel of the plurality of wheels, a computing system, a throttle control configured to generate throttle input instructions to the computing system to control the torque output of the prime mover, a brake control coupled to the plurality of wheels and to the computing system and configured to provide a braking effect to the computing system for each of the wheels of the plurality of wheels, and a user input device configured to generate an input command to the computing system, the method comprising:
- receiving at the computing system a data communication from the prime mover;
- receiving at the computing system an input command from the user input device;
- receiving at the computing system instructions from the throttle control;
- and
- altering by the computing system the torque output to one or more wheels of the plurality of wheels in response to receiving the instructions from the throttle control and the input command from the user input device.
A vehicle, comprising:
- a plurality of wheels;
- a steering device coupled to the plurality of wheels and structured to generate a steering input;
- a suspension coupled to the plurality of wheels
- a prime mover configured to generate a torque output individually to each wheel of the plurality of wheels;
- a throttle control configured generate throttle input instructions to control the torque output of the prime mover;
- a brake control configured to provide a braking effect to the computing system for each of the wheels of the plurality of wheels;
- a user input device configured to generate an input command;
- and
- a computing system coupled to the plurality of wheels, the steering device, the suspension system, the prime mover, the throttle control, the brake control, and the user input device, the computing system configure to:
- receive the input command from the user input device;
- receive instructions from the throttle control;
- receive the steering input from the steering device;
- receive the braking effect from the brake control;
- and
- alter at one or more wheels of the plurality of wheels at least one of (a) a direction of movement of the vehicle, (b) the torque output, (c) the braking effect, and (d) suspension behavior in response to receiving at least one of the input from the user input device, the steering input, the instructions from the throttle control, and the braking effect from the brake control.
