Abstract
A holder for securing a venous access device to a patient may include a flexible substrate having an upper surface, a lower surface, and an outer perimetal surface. An adhesive layer may overlay the lower surface of the flexible substrate. The adhesive layer may have an adhesive for adhering to skin of the patient. The holder may further include a hydrophilic matrix integrated into at least a portion of the adhesive layer, at least one solvent reservoir disposed on the upper surface of the flexible substrate, and a connector secured to the outer perimetal surface. The connector may have a first end for connection to a needle assembly and a second end for connection to an IV fluid line.
Claims24
A holder for securing a venous access device to a patient, the holder comprising:
- a flexible substrate having an upper outer surface and a lower surface;
- a solvent delivery line having a first end, a second end, and a hollow interior, the second end of the solvent delivery line coupled to the upper outer surface of the flexible substrate;
- an adhesive layer overlaying the lower surface of the flexible substrate, the adhesive layer having an adhesive for adhering to skin of the patient;
- a solvent pathway integrated into at least a portion of the adhesive layer, the solvent pathway comprising at least one aperture fluidly connecting the hollow interior of the solvent delivery line and the solvent pathway;
- and
- a connector secured to the upper outer surface, the connector comprising a first end for connection to a needle assembly and a second end for connection to an IV fluid line.
(canceled)
A method for providing a venous access device for a patient, the method comprising:
- providing a flexible substrate having an upper outer surface and a lower surface;
- providing an adhesive layer on the lower surface of the flexible substrate, the adhesive layer having an adhesive for adhering to skin of the patient;
- providing a solvent pathway integrated into at least a portion of the adhesive layer, and comprising at least one aperture configured for fluidly coupling to the solvent pathway;
- providing a solvent delivery line having a first end, a second end, and a hollow interior, the second end of the solvent delivery line coupled to the upper outer surface of the flexible substrate to fluidly couple the hollow interior of the solvent delivery line with the at least one aperture of the solvent pathway;
- and
- providing a connector coupled to the upper outer surface of the flexible substrate, the connector comprising a first end for connection to a needle assembly and a second end for connection to an IV fluid line.
