Abstract
The present disclosure relates methods and systems for refining grain oil compositions using water, and related compositions produced therefrom. The present disclosure also relates to methods of using grain oil derived from a fermentation product in an anti-foam composition and/or feedstock to make diesel.
Claims29
A method of refining a grain oil composition feedstock to provide a byproduct of a grain oil composition, wherein the method comprises:
- combining the grain oil composition feedstock with water to form an oil-water mixture;
- exposing the oil-water mixture to a temperature for a time period at least until the oil-water mixture forms at least an oil phase and an emulsion phase;
- separating at least a portion of the oil phase from the emulsion phase;
- dehydrating the emulsion phase to form the byproduct of a grain oil composition;
- and
- wherein the byproduct of a grain oil composition is a fraction or phase separated from a grin oil composition and includes one or more of an emulsion phase, a dehydrated emulsion phase, or an aqueous phase.
A byproduct of a grain oil composition comprising a dehydrated emulsion phase derived from a fermentation product, wherein the emulsion phase comprises:
- a) a moisture content of 1 percent or less by weight of the total dehydrated emulsion phase;
- b) a triglyceride component present in an amount from 70 to 80 percent by weight of the total dehydrated emulsion phase;
- c) a fatty acid alkyl ester component present in an amount of 5 percent or more by weight of the total dehydrated emulsion phase;
- and
- d) an element component present in an amount of 1000 ppm or more based on the total dehydrated emulsion phase, wherein the element component comprises at least one element chosen from calcium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, magnesium and combinations thereof.
A method of controlling foam in a foamable composition, wherein the method comprises mixing an anti-foam composition with the foamable composition to prevent, mitigate, or reduce foaming of the foamable composition, wherein the anti-foam composition comprises a grain oil composition derived from a fermentation product, a byproduct of the grain oil composition, or mixtures thereof.
