Abstract
Provided herein are methods and compositions for carbonation of recycled concrete aggregates (RCA) to produce carbonated RCA. In addition, uses of the carbonated RCA, such as in building materials, and building materials containing RCA, are included. Carbonation of RCA may be used alone or may be used in combination with other carbonation processes associated with concrete manufacture, such as carbonation of wet concrete mixes and/or carbonation of concrete wash water.

1-30. (canceled)
A method comprising introducing carbon dioxide into a container comprising recycled concrete aggregates (RCA), wherein the introduction of carbon dioxide is intermittent.
A method comprising contacting RCA with a mixture of gaseous and solid carbon dioxide.
A method comprising
- (i) performing one or more tests on RCA to be treated with carbon dioxide, wherein the one or more tests comprise determining moisture content of the RCA;
- (ii) if necessary, based on the results of (i), altering the moisture content of the RCA;
- (iii) placing the RCA in a container;
- and
- (iv) introducing carbon dioxide into the container to carbonate the RCA.
A system comprising
- (i) a source of liquid carbon dioxide operably connected to
- (ii) a apparatus to expose the liquid carbon dioxide to reduced pressure, to produce gaseous and solid carbon dioxide, operably connected to
- (iii) a container for containing RCA and contacting the RCA with the gaseous and solid carbon dioxide.
