A device for carrying out a 3D printing method, the device comprising:
- i) a construction field in a process chamber;
- the construction field having a first boundary and an opposing second boundary;
- ii) a build space directly above the construction field between the first and second boundaries;
- iii) a first air space beyond the first boundary in a horizontal direction;
- iv) a second air space beyond the second boundary in a horizontal direction;
- v) a first duct at a first end of the first air space and a second duct above the first air space, for a first gas flow into the first air space, capable of flowing between the first and second ducts,
- vi) a third duct at a second end of the second air space and a fourth duct above the second air space, for a second gas flow into the second air space, capable of flowing between the third and fourth ducts.
