The invention provides compositions and methods for treating mastitis. Specifically, the invention provides cathelicidin peptides for treating mastitis.

A method for treating a mastitis in a subject, the method comprising:
- administering to said subject cathelicidin 2 (CATH2) peptide, wherein said peptide comprises the amino acid sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO.:
- 35, 36, or 37,
- thereby treating said mastitis in said subject.
The method of claim 1, wherein said mastitis is associated with or induced by a bacteria.
