Silky-white multilayer coating

A multilayer coating comprising

• a) at least one ground coat layer, the at least one ground coat layer comprising at least one non-platelet-shaped titanium dioxide pigment (T);
• b) at least one midcoat layer on top of the at least one ground coat layer, the midcoat layer comprising
• i. at least one platelet-shaped titanium oxide pigment (P) selected from the group consisting of hydrogen titanium oxide (P1), titanium dioxide coated fluorinated mica (P2) and titanium dioxide coated aluminum (P3);
• and
• c) at least one clearcoat layer on top of the at least one midcoat layer;
• having a lightness L* according to CIELab
• (i) in the viewing angle range from −15° to +45° of at least 80;
• (ii) in the viewing angle range from +75° to +110° of at least 70, if a metal effect pigment is contained in the midcoat layer;
• and
• (iii) in the viewing angle range from +75° to +110° of at least 75, if no metal effect pigment is contained in the midcoat layer;
• and
• possessing a graininess (Gdiff) of ≤2.5.
