Test environment for urban human-machine interaction

A method for testing a driver assistance system, the method including:

• providing a test dataset that includes a test event, the test event comprising:
• motion data describing a time history of a pose of at least one part of an anatomical structure of a real living being that is interacting with physical controls of a first vehicle at the time the motion data is captured;
• and
• virtual simulation data that describes at least one virtual living being and at least one virtual vehicle, wherein the virtual living being is a virtual representation of the real living being and wherein that at least one virtual vehicle includes a driver assistance system;
• and
• providing the test dataset as input to the driver assistance system.

A system comprising:

• one or more storage devices storing:
• virtual simulation data that includes at least one virtual living being and at least one virtual vehicle, wherein the virtual living being is a virtual representation of a real living being and wherein that at least one virtual vehicle is a virtual representation of a vehicle with a driver assistance system;
• and
• motion data of a real living being interacting with a set of physical control manipulatable to operate one or more parts of the vehicle;
• and
• a software module, stored in the memory, configured to:
• generate a test event for the driver assistance system by combining a subset of the motion data with a subset of the virtual simulation data, the subset of the motion data describing a time history of a pose of the at least one part of an anatomical structure of the real living being;
• and
• test the driver assistance system based on the test event.
