Abstract
An apparatus for automated rope management on a vessel is described. The apparatus may include a first retraction unit configured to provide rotation about a first rotational axis, a second retraction unit connected to the first retraction unit and configured to provide rotation about a second rotational axis, and a mounting bracket coupled to the first retraction unit and configured for mounting the apparatus to the vessel.
Claims20
An apparatus for rope management, comprising:
- a first unit to receive a first end of a compliant member;
- a retraction unit including a fixed carrier and a rotating carrier configured to provide rotation about a rotational axis between a first position and a second position, the retraction unit coupled to the first unit via the rotating carrier;
- and
- a tow point connected to the fixed carrier and aligned with the rotational axis.

A system, comprising:
- a compliant member comprising a first end and a second end;
- a rope to pass through the compliant member from the second end of the compliant member to the first end of the compliant member, the rope comprising a first end and a second end;
- and
- a rope management apparatus, comprising:
- a first unit to receive the first end of the compliant member;
- a retraction unit including a fixed carrier and a rotating carrier configured to provide rotation about a rotational axis between a first position and a second position, the retraction unit coupled to the first unit via the rotating carrier;
- and
- a tow point connected to the fixed carrier and aligned with the rotational axis, the tow point to retain the first end of the rope.
5 more elements
A method, comprising:
- configuring a rope management apparatus into a stowed position, wherein the rope management apparatus is on a vessel and comprises:
- a first unit to receive a first end of a compliant member;
- a retraction unit including a fixed carrier and a rotating carrier configured to provide rotation about a rotational axis between the stowed position and a deployed position, the retraction unit coupled to the first unit via the rotating carrier;
- and
- a tow point connected to the fixed carrier and aligned with the rotational axis;
- moving the rope management apparatus into the deployed position in response to application of an exerted force;
- and
- moving the rope management apparatus into the stowed position in response to removal of the exerted force.
