Adjustable field of view laser system for web processing

A web processing machine for processing a web of material, the web processing machine comprising:

• a laser configured to generate a laser beam;
• a laser head including a first portion and a second portion, the laser head being configured to receive the beam to the first portion and pass the laser beam into the second portion, the second portion being configured to be linearly moved with respect to first portion toward or away from the web;
• a focus assembly, the focus assembly including focusing optics configured to focus the laser beam on the web of material, wherein the focus assembly is configured to move the focusing optics in-line with the laser beam;
• a gimble assembly, wherein the second portion of the laser head is configured to direct the laser beam to the gimble assembly, and the gimble assembly configured to direct the laser beam about a field of view at the web, wherein the gimble assembly is configured to linearly move with the second portion of the laser head to adjust the field of view for the laser by adjusting a distance from the gimble assembly to the web;
• a field of view motor configured to adjust the field of view of the laser by moving the second portion of the laser head with respect to the first portion of the laser head;
• a focus motor configured to adjust a focus of the laser beam by moving the focusing optics in-line with the laser beam;
• and
• a controller configured to control the focus motor and the field of view motor, wherein the controller is configured to adjust the focus of the laser beam when the field of view is adjusted.
